Vikramgad taluka is located in the central part of Palghar district and was formed on 26 June 1999. Most of the population is tribal. Most of this taluka is covered by forested hilly valleys. The geographical area of the taluka is 55037 sq. km. out of which 20759 hectares are cultivable. The average rainfall in the taluka is 2500 to 3000 mm.There are 95 villages and 42 gram panchayats in this taluka, and the total population according to the 2011 census is 1,37,625. Of these, 69,136 are males and 68,489 are females. Vikramgad is a newly created taluka in Palghar district. Jawharcha Ghat and Vatavadya Sulaka in the Sahyadri range are visible in the east. Kohoj Fort is visible in the southwest. Palghar district is in the west of Vikramgad taluka and Dahanu taluka is in the northwest. Wada taluka is in the south. Matera mountain is visible near Mahalaxmi mountain and east-west. Vikramgad is located in the Deharje valley in the lowlands of this mountain. In Vikramgad taluka, all three seasons, summer, monsoon and winter, are mainly felt. There is a lot of rainfall in the months of July and August. Rice cultivation is the main crop in these talukas and the entire agriculture depends on rain water. Along with rice cultivation, crops like Nagli, Varai and Khurasani are grown in the hilly areas. In the administration of the former Jawhar Sansthan, Vikramgad was called Kudan. At that time, Kudan village acted as a protective wall to stop the foreigners on the border.
