NIC Background:

National Informatics Centre (NIC) was established in 1976, and has since emerged as a “prime builder” of e-Government / e-Governance applications up to the grassroots level as well as a promoter of digital opportunities for sustainable development. NIC, through its ICT Network, “NICNET”, has institutional linkages with all the Ministries /Departments of the Central Government, 36 State Governments/ Union Territories, and about 708 District administrations of India.

NIC has been instrumental in steering e-Government/e-Governance applications in government ministries/departments at the Centre, States, Districts and Blocks, facilitating improvement in government services, wider transparency, promoting decentralized planning and management, resulting in better efficiency and accountability to the people of India. Informatics-led-development” programme of the government has been spearheaded by NIC to derive competitive advantage by implementing ICT applications in social & public administration. The following major activities are being undertaken:

  • Setting up of ICT Infrastructure
  • Implementation of National and State Level e-Governance Projects/Products
  • Consultancy to the Government departments
  • Research & Development and
  • Capacity Building

National Informatics Centre (NIC) provides nationwide ICT infrastructure to support e-Governance services and various initiatives of Digital India. NIC has been associated with design and development of software for improving delivery of services undertaken by government departments at State and District level.

ICT infrastructure of NIC viz. NICNET, NKN, LAN, Mini Data Centre, Videoconference studios, messaging service, Webcast facilities are the key constituents of NIC services across all 36 States/ UTs and 708 Districts.

In order to design, development and implementation of various eGovernance initiatives and Digital India programme, NIC State Centres along with their respective District Centers are continually engaged to automate and accelerate eGovernance processes in close interaction with Government Departments.

In order to design, development and implementation of various eGovernance initiatives and Digital India programme, NIC State Centre in 36 States/ UTs along with 708 District Centers are continually engaged to automate and accelerate eGovernance processes in close interaction with users of the departments.

ICT infrastructure of NIC viz. NICNET, NKN, LAN, Mini Data Centre, Videoconference studios, messaging service, Webcast facilities are the key constituents of NIC services.

In way of theses ICT infrastructure, NIC District Centres are playing diverse role right from executing various projects under e-Governance and Digital India initiatives to day-to-day ICT-driven technical support to consultancy to various departments in the district.

New ICT initiatives at the behest of District Magistrates are also being undertaken for design & development under their guidance and technical support of District Informatics Officer (DIO) and Addl. District Informatics Officer (ADIO).

District Administration with support from NIC is executing and implementing e-governance and Digital India initiatives to the grass root level in achieving transparent, efficient and responsive governance by providing ICT-led developments e.g. NICNET and NKN Connectivity, Video Conferencing, Projects Implementation, Capacity building, eMail and SMSs services, ICT implementation in districts including Software Development, Technical Support to VVIP Events and DeitY Programmes e.g. Digital India, CSCs, DISHA, e-Governance Society etc.

NIC provides technical service for various district and Taluka level government offices. Mainly the offices are District court, ZP, DRDA, SP Office, APMC’s, Agriculture offices, RTO office, Dist. Consumer court, Employment office, Department of post, Treasury etc. Apart from this for collectorate NIC plays vital and active role in coordinating various technical e-governance/ICT activities for its implementation in the district

Technical Consultancy :

The technical support and consultancy is provided by NIC Palghar to many State government offices to tackle their IT needs and problems.

Training :

As a part of IT Support to Government on various e-governance projects, training programmes are conducted by NIC Palghar. Training programmes are arranged in the District Centres for immediate requirements. The following are the trainings generally given.

  • General Computer Awareness programmes
  • Training on Office Automation tools
  • Sectoral training programmes as part of implementation of various e-governance projects
  • Workshops and Seminars

 

Video Conferencing Service:

A Video Conferencing Studio has been established by NIC at all the districts of Maharashtra. Departments use this facility to monitor the implementation of various projects.

Website Design & Development:

The NIC Palghar has developed the official web site for the district administration and keeps it up to date periodically as per the requirement by district administration.

ICT active support in Elections:

The NIC Palghar always involved in all the Assembly and Parliamentary election process. The work of allotment of polling staff, their randomization, forming parties, random allocation of polling booths to parties, raising the system and hardware for counting process, giving daily online information related to election and constituencies to Elction Commision of India and NIC Delhi which has collaboration with Dorrdarshan for result telecast.

Technical coordination in implementation of the ICT projects:

Network Services (NICNET):

  • Providing network backbone and e-Governance support to Central Government, State Governments, and Districts level ICT projects. The network router setup through which Lease line connectivity of 100 mbps with the help of RAILTEL line has been configured in the collectorate.
  • Lan Configuration and Monitoring at Collector Office.

NIC Email facility:

Email facility has been provided to all the government departments.Provided the NICNET network connectivity to Collector office.
