SDO Dahanu
Dahanu is a tribal-dominated taluka in Palghar district. Dahanu taluka is mainly located in the mountainous and coastal areas. Dahanu taluka has an area of 1,256.54 sq. km and a total population of 4,02,095. Dahanu taluka is bordered by Talasari taluka and Gujarat state to the north, Palghar taluka to the south, Jawhar and Vikramgad talukas to the east and the Arabian Sea to the west.
The structure of Dahanu taluka is mountainous and tribal areas scattered in the east and the coastline in the west. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway No. 8 passes through the taluka. The villages of Dahanu taluka on this national highway are Tawa, Ghol, Charoti, Mahalaxmi, Vivalvedhe, Dhanivari, Dapachari. The railway passes through Dahanu taluka and the stations on this railway are Wangaon, Dahanu, Gholwad and Bordi. The main source of income of Dahanu taluka is rice farming. The taluka mainly has a thermal power project of Reliance. Also, the small-scale die-making industry in Chinchani is world famous. The balloon-making company in Dahanu taluka is also a leader in the industry. Universal Capsule Ltd. Ashagad, Meher Distilleries Ltd. are well-known industries. The world famous Chiku is grown in Gholwad village of Dahanu taluka. In Dahanu taluka, Chiku and coconut are cultivated on a large scale, as well as litchi, mango, jackfruit, banana, etc. in other orchards. Vegetables are cultivated on a large scale in coastal villages, including chilli, vanilla, tomato, which are grown on a large area and are supplied to the Mumbai market every day. The water from the sugar, kavdasa and surya projects in the taluka is used for drinking as well as for agriculture.
Dahanu taluka has Dahanu beach, Bordi beach, Dahanu Fort and Chinchani beach as tourist destinations. Also, Mahalakshmi Jagdhar Devasthan at Vivalvedhe, Shri Santoshi Mata Temple at Ashagarh and Shri Saibaba Temple at Narpad, Jain Temple at Kosbad are religious places. There is a large number of tribal communities like Warli, Katkari, Dhodi, Dubala, Konkana, Malhar Koli in Dahanu taluka. The world famous Warli painting originated in Dahanu taluka and Shri Jivya Mhase has received the Padma Shri award from the Government of India for his excellent work in the field of Warli painting.
Dahanu taluka has a tribal population. Warli painting and Tarpa dance are the cultural identity of the taluka.

The Mahalaxmi Mata Mandir in Vivalvedhe, dedicated to the goddess of wealth and prosperity, has a history rooted in the worship of Mahalakshmi, and is a place of rich spiritual significance
The Mahalakshmi temple, or Mahalaxmi Temple, is a temple situated on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Highway in Dahanu taluka, Palghar, Maharashtra, India. It is dedicated to Mahalakshmi. This temple was built by Koli king Jayaba Mukne of Jawhar State in 1306 at the establishment of Jawhar. During the worship, the flag of the present Raja of Mukne Dynasty of Jawhar is offered to the mother’s temple. The flag is presented by Narayan Satava, the priest of the village of Vaghadi.
The duty or responsibility of managing the temple, its activities including presiding over its rituals was bestowed upon a clan called Satav of the Malhar Koli tribe by Koli rulers of Jawhar. The current high priest of the Mahalaxmi temple is a Satav, from the Satav clan of Malhar Koli tribe. Mahalaxmi goddess is goddess of the mountains is the clan goddess of the Satav clan. Members of Satva clan are hence looked upon with respect by other clans of Malhar koli tribe and even other tribal groups as well.
Navratri Festival
During Navaratri celebrations, devotees from distant places throng to the temple, which is decorated for this occasion, to pay obeisance. They have to stand for hours in long queues holding coconuts, flowers and sweets which they offer to the goddess.
